Town of Porter Supervisor Merton K. "Mert" Wiepert has announced his candidacy for re-election.

Wiepert said he believes that, with over 20 years of experience, he is devoted to this township. His career began in 1983 as town councilman, and moved upward from there to deputy supervisor, budget officer and town supervisor. He said he would be greatly honored to serve another term as Town of Porter supervisor

Wiepert is a lifelong resident of Porter, a father of three daughters and a grandfather of five. He is also a member and treasurer of the Niagara County Supervisors Association, member of the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce, and a Niagara County Water commissioner. Wiepert is also a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

"My priority as town supervisor is to keep a stable tax rate and maintain a good quality of life for all residents. I want Porter to be a great place to live, work and enjoy our waterfront," Wiepert said. "I ask for your vote on primary day, Sept. 12, as well as Election Day, Nov. 7."
