Holiday baskets spread good cheer

Sat, Dec 31st 2016 07:00 am

Volunteers for the Youngstown/Porter community holiday baskets gathered during the week of Dec. 12 for their annual assistance campaign. Volunteers accepted groceries and donations, organized them for needy families, and sorted and wrapped presents for children ranging from birth to teenage years. They then boxed, bagged and delivered a host of items intended to brighten Christmas for needy families in the Lewiston, Youngstown and Porter areas.

"Everything was organized this year as it has been for many, many years by a fantastic lady named Peggy Hanson," commented volunteer Beverly Roach of Youngstown. "Peggy has been helped through the years by a wonderful committee and many terrific volunteers and donors. She has been active in this organization for over 25 years, and been the chairman of the Youngstown/Porter community holiday baskets for many years."

Roach continued, "Unfortunately, Peggy said this year, 'after many years of working with all of you on this great display of community giving, I have decided that, after this holiday season, I will no longer be able to commit the amount of time needed to continue in my role.'

"We in the community wish Peggy all the best and offer our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for all that she has done over the years for us."

Hanson and her entire Youngstown-Porter community holiday baskets committee would like to thank the many organizations, businesses and individuals who donated their time and resources to make the holiday baskets complete for the needy families in our community. These include:
