Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz was joined by Commissioner of Senior Services Timothy Hogues, members of the Erie County Senior Services department, and enthusiastic seniors at the Town of Aurora Senior Center to honor Louise Smith as Erie County's "Senior of the Month" for December.

A resident of East Aurora since 1975, Smith was honored for her numerous volunteer efforts, including her service at the Town of Aurora Senior Center. She is also an active and contributing member of the Erie County Department of Senior Services advisory board and the Erie County Stay Fit Nutrition Project Council. She is well known for her ongoing volunteer efforts at the East Aurora Adult Care Center.

"Ms. Smith is an extremely active and energetic individual who continues to find unique ways to give back to her community. Her efforts to help others is having a direct positive impact on the health and well-being of many senior citizens in the Town of Aurora, the Village of East Aurora and throughout all of Erie County," Poloncarz said. "It is an honor to celebrate Ms. Smith as December's Senior of the Month."

Hogues added, "Ms. Smith is very well known in our community for her commitment to her peers at the Senior Center, many of whom are proud to call her a dear friend. She is a dedicated volunteer who is always willing to go above and beyond to help others, and we are proud to honor her as this month's Senior of the Month."

In addition to her current volunteer roles, Smith also served in the past as a volunteer at the East Aurora Public Library, where she was first recognized by various stakeholders in the community as someone who desires to raise the bar of community service to a new high, and established a superlative standard for volunteer community service.
