Season starts ahead of Lewiston Christmas Walk
The Lewiston Family Ice Rink opened Friday, on time, thanks to herculean efforts made last month by the Town of Lewiston recreation and highway departments.
To celebrate the start of skating, members of the Town of Lewiston Council and Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees joined with the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce in a triumphant ribbon-cutting ceremony at Academy Park.
Town budget struggles initially threatened the venue, before local business leaders (namely Tom Deal of Deal Realty) stepped forward to partner with elected leaders in finding funding for a 42-day season.
To help offset operational costs, there is a $3 skating fee.
The Lewiston Family Ice Rink is open from 4-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 4-10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
