Wild bird, environmental education event to take place

A wildlife and nature educational and artwork shopping event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 3 at the at the Grand Island Nike Base Community Center, 3278 Whitehaven Road.

Oakmoss Education and Wild Spirit Education will be on-site to provide information focused on understanding and appreciating the natural environment and the importance of the animals and their connections to healthy ecosystems. Oakmoss Education works to bring individuals back in connection with the natural world and to re-awaken humanity's intuitive connection to nature. Wild Spirit Education is an organization dedicated to the preservation of the natural world through education, conservation and advocacy.

Christine Patrice Gebera is a local artist who will feature wildlife-themed artwork for purchase.

At 11 a.m., there will be a special presentation by Mary Jo Graham, founding director of Oakmoss Education, titled "Wild Bird Care for Winter." (Graham will share steps and projects that individuals can make that birds will appreciate during the lean days of winter while increasing opportunities for bird-watching and providing a deeper understanding of avian behaviors.)

The event is co-sponsored by the Citizen Coalition for Wildlife and Environment and Animal Advocates of Western New York. The coalition is a new citizen group formed to educate, increase awareness, and advocate on topics relating to wildlife and the environment.
