Wendy L. Duignan, Ph.D., died June 21, 2016, in Buffalo.
Born on July 10, 1949, in Niagara Falls, Wendy was the daughter of the late Paul F. and Melita Coyle Duignan. She is survived by her sister, Donna Duignan, of Grand Island; an uncle, Henry Coyle of North Carolina, several cousins, and her friend, June Crawford.
She was an associate professor at Niagara University and taught there for over 30 years. Recognized as an expert on Louis Carroll and mathematics and logic, Wendy served as chair of the Mathematics Department for several years prior to her retirement. Her doctoral dissertation was on matroid theory and she was one of about 25 mathematicians worldwide investigating that area of math when she did her research at Syracuse University.
A talented photographer and gardener, she was a philanthropist and volunteer in the community and her generosity and gentle spirit will be missed by many.
As a final gesture of kindness, Wendy donated her body to the University at Buffalo Medical School Anatomical Gift Program.
Services will be held on Friday, July 8, at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2100 Whitehaven Road, Grand Island. Flowers gratefully declined.
Memorials may be made to The Graycliff Conservancy, 6472 Old Lake Shore Road, PO Box 823, Derby, NY 14047, where Wendy was a master docent.
