Shown at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park is, from left, Don Alessi, board of directors chairman; Marina Woolcock, board member and chairwoman of the War of 1812 committee; and Tony Diina, vice chairman of the board. They are at the Ghent Rose Garden in Monument Park, adjacent to the Naval Park ships, after a garden of yellow roses was dedicated during a Flag Day ceremony Tuesday morning at the park.

The yellow rose symbolizes the Treaty of Ghent, which ended the War of 1812 between the U.S. and Great Britain. The peace treaty, signed in Ghent, Belgium, served as the basis of more than 200 years of friendship among the U.S., Great Britain and Canada.
