More variety, larger and fresher selection available to customers
Tops Friendly Markets, a leading full-service grocery retailer in upstate New York, northern Pennsylvania and western Vermont, unveiled a $1 million renovation of its new store in Sanborn during a grand opening Wednesday.
Tops and local officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony as part of the celebration. The renovation doubles the size of the previous operator at 2956 Saunders Settlement Road. The overall store footprint is now 12,000 square feet.
Tops assumed operations of the former Sanborn Marketplace store at that location earlier this year. As part of the grand-opening celebration, and to show dedication to the Sanborn community, Tops made donations to the Sanborn Fire Department, Orleans-Niagara BOCES, the American Legion, Niagara-Wheatfield School District and the culinary department at Niagara County Community College.
"We are proud to become a part of the Sanborn community and be their neighborhood grocer," said John Persons, president and COO of Tops Friendly Markets. "Customers in Sanborn will experience essentially an all-new Tops store. The existing building has undergone extensive renovations, which allows us to provide a larger, fresher variety to customers and offer great customer service in a welcoming environment."
The produce section has been expanded, providing customers with more selection, including locally grown produce from throughout the region. In addition, space has been added to the bakery, deli, meats, dairy, refrigerated drinks, frozen foods and prepared foods areas, including an all-new Carryout Café providing fresh pizza and subs, fresh hot chicken and grab-and-go items.
"Sanborn customers are now able to choose from a wider selection of products from national, local and Tops brands, similar to what they would see at a larger Tops store," Persons added. "A wide variety of fresh produce will be a welcome addition for customers in Sanborn."
Aesthetically, the entire interior of the store and the storefront have an updated décor, and the existing ceiling was removed, which provides a more open space. Throughout the store, Tops has added more shelving space, which allows customers to choose from an increased variety of national and store brands, along with the local brands they love.
As this new Tops store is located across from NCCC, historical photos of the college campus adorn the walls of the store.
In an effort to be more energy-efficient, new lighting was added throughout the store, including LED lighting in cold and frozen food cases.
