John J. "Jack" Reardon of Lewiston passed away Friday, April 8, 2016, in Mount St. Mary's Hospital.
He was born in Roslyn, New York, on June 16, 1929, the son of the late John J. and Elizabeth (Brennan) Reardon.
Reardon grew up on Long Island and was a lifeguard during the summers. He graduated from Adelphi University and served in the Naval Reserves.
He sold Bibles and other religious items before becoming an insurance agent with the Travelers Insurance Co. on Long Island. He worked in that capacity for more than 50 years and was also a substitute teacher for many years.
Reardon moved to Lewiston in 1995.
He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed fishing, doing puzzles, reading and studying military history, especially World War II.
Reardon is survived by his wife, Ethel (Vogel) Reardon; two sons, John J. (late Glenda) Reardon and Richard T. (Lisa) Reardon; one daughter, Carolyn (Donald) Benenson; six grandchildren: Ryan (Melissa) Reardon, Michael (Alesha) Reardon, Kimberly (Paul) Sokolofsky, Jay and Amy Benenson and Michelle Reardon; five great-grandchildren: Jacob, Logan, Luke, Zinnea and Jack; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Patricia and Ann Reardon.
His family will be present from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 901 Cayuga St., Lewiston. Funeral services will be held there at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Monsignor David G. LiPuma officiating. Military honors will follow.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made in Reardon's name to the St. Jude Shrine, 975 Ridge Road, Lewiston.
