Island resident Ruth (Becker) Padlog died April 18, 2016, at 90 years of age.
Ruth was born April 4, 1926, in Olean. She graduated from Fredonia College in 1950 with degrees in music and elementary education and earned a masters degree in elementary education in 1953 from State Teachers College.
Ruth's teaching career brought her to the Niagara Falls school system. Shortly after moving to Niagara Falls, she met her husband, Joseph Padlog, an aeronautical engineer with Bell Aerospace. After their marriage, they settled on Grand Island to raise their family.
Ruth had a great love for music. While raising her family, she continued her music career, giving private piano and violin lessons. Ruth loved performing; she was a violinist with the Cheektowaga Symphony. She also took pleasure in playing her violin with Little Richie's Polka Band.
During her retirement, she and her husband Joe traveled extensively across the United States. They loved dancing and often took winter ski trips. Ruth loved swimming and boating, and she enjoyed her home on the Niagara River, where she lived until shortly before her death.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sylvia (Robert) White, and a son, Robert (Joanne) Padlog.
