Catherine Berry Miklitsch of Lewiston passed away at her home on Sunday, April 10, 2016, under the care of her family and Niagara Hospice.
She was born in Niagara Falls on Aug. 3, 1925, the daughter of the late Dr. George D. and Catherine (Brett) Berry.
Kitty graduated from Stella Niagara Elementary School and Stella Niagara Seminary. She earned her Bachelor's of Arts degree in English from Nazareth College in 1947 and a Masters of Arts from Niagara University in 1949.
A member of St. Peter's R.C. Church, she taught religious education and was the first woman on the parish council.
Kitty was a poet and writer and, for 20 years, she was an active participant in the workshop of the Association of Professional Women Writers. Her poetry appeared in numerous literary magazines and journals, including Buffalo Journal, Piedmont Literary Review, Poetpourri and Sacred Journal. Collections of her poems were published in two books: "The Habit of Dawn" and "As Evening Falls."
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert W. Miklitsch Sr.; two sons, Robert W. Miklitsch Jr. and David J. Miklitsch; four daughters, Catherine M. Miklitsch, Sister Teresa A. Miklitsch, Mary F. (Donna Pavetti) Miklitsch and Rosemary E. (Jim Rapino) Miklitsch; three brothers, Dr. George Berry, John Berry and Robert Berry; two sisters, Loretta Berry and Mary Scalise; also four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held Thursday at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 901 Cayuga St., Lewiston, where funeral services took place Friday morning. A Mass of Christian burial followed at St. Peter's R.C. Church, with the Rev. Monsignor David G. LiPuma officiating.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Sisters of St. Francis, Heart, Love and Soul or Nazareth College.
Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
