The Town of Lewiston Democratic Committee has announced its selection of Lewiston Town Board member Rob Morreale as the 2016 "Democrat of the Year." The annual award recognizes individuals for service and contributions to the Lewiston community.

Morreale was elected to the Town Board last November and he took office in January.

"Rob is doing an outstanding job looking out for the interests of all the people of Lewiston," said Diane Perri Roberts, chairwoman of the Lewiston Democratic Committee. "Rob is fighting for openness in town government and is a courageous voice in trying to change what, in the past, was many times just blind, naked partisanship in Lewiston town government."

Morreale is a well-respected, longtime co-owner of Collision Enterprises Inc., an auto body repair shop in Niagara Falls. He has also served on the board of directors of the Pine Avenue Business Association.

As Town Councilman, Morreale is keeping a watchful eye on town government spending, ensuring the town follows sound business practices in its operations.

The 2016 honoree and his wife, Donna, have lived in Lewiston for 25 years. They have two children. For many years, Morreale coached baseball and softball teams in the Town of Lewiston's Recreation Department programs.

Morreale will be honored at a brunch on Sunday, April 17, at the Niagara Falls Country Club, 505 Mountain View Drive, Lewiston. Open to the public, the event will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
