The Grand Island Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 50th year of honoring Islanders who have made the town a better place to live, work and play.
This week at Byblos Niagara Resort & Spa, at left, Shannon Zaccaria, chamber director, and Liz Wilbert, chair of the 50th Citizen of the Year Awards Dinner, thanked Byblos' Scott Swagler, general manager, and Marni Bator, senior manager, for their support for the annual event, which will take place from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at the hotel, located at 100 Whitehaven Road.
Byblos is a platinum sponsor of the event, which was first held in 1966.
Not pictured is the chamber's Jim Sharpe, co-chair in charge of fundraising.
Nominations for the awards are now being sought. Award winners are members of businesses, organizations, teachers and individuals, or someone who has gone the extra mile.
