Discover NY 'Ski Day' slated for Jan. 28 to feature steep discounts, learn-to-ski incentives

Ski Areas of New York, the organization that represents more than 40 ski areas throughout New York, announced ticket discounts at more than 25 ski areas for Discover NY "Ski Day," slated for Jan. 28, 2016.

Discover NY "Ski Day" offers state residents the opportunity to experience skiing and snowboarding at more than 25 participating mountains across the state for a special promotional rate. Lift tickets will be on sale starting today, and will cost either $12 or $25.

Beginners looking to get involved in the sport or brush up on their skills can secure a beginner lift ticket, lesson and rentals for $25 or $35, depending on the ski area.

In New York, there is a ski area within 90 miles of every major metropolitan area. Discover NY "Ski Day" participating ski areas by region include (but not limited to):

  • The Adirondacks Region - Gore Mountain, Oak Mountain, Titus Mountain, Whiteface Mountain
  • The Catskills Region - Belleayre Mountain, Windham Mountain
  • Central New York Region - Greek Peak Mountain Resort
  • Hudson Valley Region - Catamount Ski Area, Mount Peter, Thunder Ridge Ski Area
  • Western New York Region - Bristol Mountain, Holiday Valley Resort, Swain Resort

January is "Learn a Snow Sport Month," and New York, with more ski areas than any other state in the country, offers on-the-snow programs for all ages to get new generations of winter fans on the snow and having fun.

"During a month dedicated to getting New Yorkers involved in skiing and riding, Discover NY 'Ski Day' is a chance for beginners to experience a day on the mountain, take a lesson and, we hope, fall in love with the sport," said Scott Brandi, president of Ski Areas of New York. "But it isn't just a day for newcomers, because even expert skiers can take advantage of these deeply discounted lift tickets and explore a new ski area."
