In keeping with its mission to meet the health care needs of residents throughout Niagara County, Mount St. Mary's Hospital has filed a certificate of need application with the New York State Department of Health to open a women's health center in the Lockport area.

Gary Tucker, president and CEO of Mount St. Mary's, said the hospital already provides services to hundreds of women in the Lockport area, and the new office will be a convenience for those patients as well as others seeking primary OB/GYN services and prenatal care in the surrounding community.

"Changes in the provider community have created a growing need for primary OB/GYN care in the eastern portion of Niagara County," Tucker explained. "This center will fulfill that need, offering greater convenience and access to care for women throughout the local community."

Mount St. Mary's is one of the leading providers of women's health care in Niagara County. Over the past few years, Mount St. Mary's has invested more than $2 million to create its Center for Women, a "women's hospital within a hospital," on the second floor of its Lewiston facility. Investments have included new physician offices and treatment rooms, diagnostic equipment, labor and delivery suites, among other improvements.

Obstetricians and gynecologists from Mount St. Mary's Hospital will staff the Lockport facility. The center is expected to open in February pending Department of Health approval.

"Our medical staff has been recognized for providing high-quality OB/GYN care, and we look forward to expanding our women's services to the Lockport area," Tucker said.
