The Mighty Niagara Half Marathon and Hospice Dash 5K Race Director Paul Beatty Jr., along with members of his race committee, recently presented Niagara Hospice with a check for $94,472.14. The race, presented by Yahoo! was held Sept. 19 and was a success with more than 2,000 runners, hundreds of volunteers, and support from local businesses and organizations.

The event began as The Hospice Dash 5K in 2009. The half-marathon was added in 2011 and was branded with a new name, The Mighty Niagara Half Marathon, in 2012. The event has gained popularity as a destination race and is one of the largest races in Western New York.

The Mighty Niagara has grown tremendously, attracting runners from all over the country and the world. This year, runners traveled from Canada, England, Austria and Mexico to enjoy the race and all the Niagara Frontier has to offer.

"It's incredible to see how the race has grown. We are so thankful for the support from the community and the runners that choose our race year after year," Beatty said. "We are also excited to see runners coming from all over the world. We are proud to be making a great impact on Western New York while raising thousands of dollars for Niagara Hospice."

Registration is now open for next year's Mighty Niagara Half Marathon, to be held Sept. 24. More information and registration is available at www.MightyNiagaraHalfMarathon.com. For sponsorship and volunteer opportunities, contact Maureen Rizzo at 716-280-0728 or [email protected].

Niagara Hospice has provided end-of-life comfort, care and support since 1988 to more than 25,000 Niagara County individuals and families faced with terminal illness. No one is ever denied hospice care due to inability to pay. For more information, visit www.NiagaraHospice.org or call 716-HOSPICE.
