'Jazz Mass' at St. Peter's

Sat, Aug 22nd 2015 07:00 am

For the first time, the Historic Lewiston Jazz Festival is partnering with St. Peter's R.C. Church to incorporate a "Jazz Mass" and concert in conjunction with the festival. The Rev. Msgr. David LiPuma has embraced the opportunity to partner with community events like this one.

For the "Jazz Mass," St. Peter's has rented a baby grand piano. A pre-Mass concert begins at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, with preludes. The "Jazz Mass" follows at 4:30 p.m. Musicians for the celebration include Bobby Militello (saxophone, flute), Tim Wells (piano), Greg Piontek (bass) and Ray Bennett (drums). A contemporary choir of singers, ages 14-18, from St. Joseph University Parish in Buffalo will lend its voice to the event.

LiPuma is the celebrant and homilist.

St. Peter's is located at the corner of Center and North Sixth streets.
