Erie County Fair daily highlights for Sunday

Here is what you need to know for day No. 5, Veterans Day, at the Erie County Fair.

Veterans Day

Free Admission to veterans and active military with proper ID.

Catholic Mass at 10 a.m. -Evans Bank Family Entertainment Complex

Veterans Recognition Ceremony at 11:15 a.m. - Grandstand infield - A number of people will be sworn in to the United States Marines Corps during the ceremony that honors all branches of the military.

Veterans Parade at 1 p.m. - GUSTO Grandstand - The parade will feature both active military as well as veterans in a free event.

Traditional Native Veterans Ceremony at 4 p.m. - Nya:Weh Indian Village will honor veterans in a ceremony that is steeped in Native tradition at the Turtle Mound.

Vehicles for Vets - 7 p.m. GUSTO Grandstand - The Basil Family of Dealerships will cap off its summer-long program by giving away a vehicle to one of nine veterans at a special presentation before the David Nail concert. The nine finalists have been nominated throughout the summer by their families, friends and colleagues. Their stories have been shared regularly on air by WYRK.

Live in the GUSTO Grandstand

David Nail. Hailing from Missouri, David Nail has released three studio albums. His latest, "I'm A Fire," rose to No. 3 on the country music charts. The lead single off that album, "Whatever She's Got," climbed all the way to No. 1 in U.S. country airplay.

This is a free concert taking the place of the cancelled Little Big Town show. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. and is part of the National Grid Concert Series.

Deals and Discounts

Student Special. Students ages 13-22 receive $5 admission after 5 p.m. with proper ID.

One-Price-Ride Day. Unlimited ride wristbands are available for $40 on the Strates midway.

Special Events

Johnsonville Big Taste Grill. Guests can eat a Johnsonville Brat at the Big Taste Grill for $3. Two dollars from every brat sold benefits the Food Bank of WNY. Look for the Big Taste Grill across from the Showplex.

Digital Shootout. Pre-registered photographers will receive a theme at the start of the competition. They then have the remainder of the day to shoot as many photos within that theme as they can. At the end of the time limit, each contestant must turn in one photo for final judging. The contest begins at 10 a.m.

The winners will be announced Aug. 17 at 3 p.m. in the Creative Arts Exhibits.

Quick Bread Competition. Entrants can drop off their best quick bread and recipes at the Creative Arts Exhibit Area for judging.

A quick bread is defined as bread using a leavening agent other than yeast or eggs (example: Banana bread). Judging will take place at noon.

Xpogo. This high-energy show features extreme pogo stick team members on next-generation pogo sticks. This flips and tricks can send members over nine feet in the air. The team has been featured on "America's Got Talent" and, between the members, they hold 13 Guinness World Records.
