Obit: Henry Carroll

Henry "Hank" Carroll of Grand Island passed away at the age of 93 Friday, July 3, 2015, after a brief illness.

He was born in Brantford, Ontario, and emigrated to the United States in 1958. He and his family lived in several states before moving and retiring to Grand Island in 1978.

Hank is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nonnie; sons Roger and James, and daughter Deborah. In addition, he is survived by eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.

Henry proudly served as a captain with the South Alberta Regiment of the Canadian Army in World War II. He was recently nominated to be awarded the French Legion d'Honneur for his service in the campaign to liberate France in 1944.

Hank was extremely active in community life on Grand Island. He served on the Economic Development Committee, held several positions with the Grand Island Golden Age Center, and was a CERT volunteer. An avid golfer, he conducted youth golf clinics with for the town Recreation Department for many years.

Henry was memorialized at St. Stephen R.C. Church Saturday, July 11. Arrangements were by Kaiser Funeral Home.
