The Town of Niagara has appointed Joseph Proietti as its new senior citizens services director. Proietti began work Feb. 2. His goal is to increase participation at the center and to expand the programs and activities offered at the center.

"The focus of our program will be to enable individuals to continue being an integral part of their community while keeping their dignity and sense of wellbeing, and enrich the lives of senior adults in our community," he said. "Activities, programs, trips, etc., are all vital parts of any senior program."

The center is currently open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and it offers bingo from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays and lunches from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The annual Easter luncheon is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 27, with bingo to follow. It is open to all town senior citizens. It is limited to the first 100 resident who call and reserve a space. Call the center at 716-297-5243 to reserve a spot.

Some of Proietti's ideas for expanding the programs at the center include a newsletter, activities with other senior programs in the area, trips, exercise classes, nutrition classes, health fairs, game days, movie days, library days, painting classes, ceramic classes, dances, information days on topical issues, speakers and the forming of a senior advisory council.

He said he welcomes ideas or suggestions. Proietti can be reached at his office or by phone at 716-297-5243.
