Residents and employees at Northgate Health Care Facility in Wheatfield donned masks for a Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras parade last week.
Pictured Northgate resident Florence Dorobiala, formerly of West Seneca, and Assistant Activity Director Joelle Kott of North Tonawanda donned festive masks for the facility's parade.
Resident takes a trip back in time
When Northgate resident Elsie Robertson started reminiscing about her memories of fish and chips in her home country of England, staff members knew just what they wanted to do. With the help of Shannon's Pub in Tonawanda, employees at Northgate were able to grant Elsie's wish of "traveling back home to England for the day."
Robertson's morning began when she was donned "queen for the day" and crowned with a tiara purchased by Medical Records Clerk Alissa Vandyke of Cheektowaga. Her breakfast consisted of tea and crumpets made by Activities Leader Kim Mitchell of Lockport. Shannon's Pub donated bangers and mashed potatoes for Robertson to enjoy at lunchtime, and she savored every bite.
Administrator Terry Collins shared pictures of her time in Oxford, England, this past summer and brought in some royal family memorabilia. Robertson took special care to thank the Northgate staff and Shannon's Pub for making her day one to remember.
Robertson moved in 1950 and lived in Lewiston. She became a resident at Northgate Health Care Facility in January.
