The Tuscarora Indian School K-Kids recently concluded their 13th annual canned food drive.
Club adviser Paul Beatty said the event encourages students in pre-K through sixth grade to collect nonperishable food items, which are donated to families in need during the holiday season.
This year, the kids were able to collect hundreds of items. All of the food will be distributed to Native American families through the Tuscarora Indian Mission.
The fourth-graders collected the most items and will receive a free pizza party.
"As an extra incentive, (the Lewiston Event Center) has agreed to host a bowling party for the entire school at a special discount price for all of their efforts," Beatty said.
K-Kids is a student-led community service organization sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Lewiston.
"Our objective is to provide opportunities for working together in service to both school and community; to develop leadership potential; to foster the development of strong moral character; and to encourage loyalty to school, community and nation," Beatty said.
