State Police captain retires

Maj. Michael J. Cerretto, troop commander, Troop A, congratulated Capt. Joseph B. Scioli Jr. on his last working day before entering into retirement, completing a 26-year career with the State Police. Scioli's most recent assignment was as the Troop A Zone 1 commander where he was responsible for State Police Uniform Operations in Niagara, Genesee and Orleans counties.

Scioli joined the State Police in March 1989 and was assigned to Troop L upon his graduation from the Academy. He also served as a Trooper in troops D and E. As a trooper, he was assigned to the Community Narcotics Enforcement Team in 1994 and was promoted to investigator in September 1996. He continued his career as an investigator and senior investigator until his promotion to lieutenant in August 2007.

During his time as a lieutenant, he served with the NYC/Drug Enforcement Joint Task Force, State Police Special Investigations Unit and the Internal Affairs Bureau. He was promoted to captain in March 2013 and assigned to the Internal Affairs Bureau. In February 2014, Scioli transferred to his final position with the State Police as the Troop A Zone 1 commander.

Scioli has a reputation as a trusted and respected leader with excellent interpersonal skills who has fostered and maintained excellent relationships both within and outside the State Police, Cerretto said. The State Police offered Scioli best wishes on his future endeavors.
