A benefit to assist leukemia patient Elizabeth Restey with her mounting bills will take place Sept. 28.

Restey, an Island native, graduated from the University at Buffalo in May this year and had started a new job when she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia just before her 22nd birthday. She spent a month in Roswell Park Cancer Institute, where she is undergoing chemotherapy following a special neutropenic diet due to a weakened immune system. She may need a bone marrow transplant and will be out of work for at least a year.

A benefit for Restey will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at J&M's West End Inn, 340 Union St., Hamburg. The event will include basket auctions, silent auctions and raffles, as well as food, beer, door prizes and live music.

Donations can also be sent to Heather Yockey, 31 International Lane, Grand Island NY 14072; or Kristin Stephen, 12917 Donna Bru Drive, Alden NY 14004.
