The facility siting board and Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Joe Martens extended the public comment period by 45 days for Chemical Waste Management's application to construct and operate a new landfill at the company's existing facility in the towns of Porter and Lewiston due to extensive public interest and requests for additional time to comment on the permit application. The public can now submit comments until Oct. 20.

Comments may be submitted by mail to Chief Administrative Law Judge James T. McClymonds, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Office of Hearings and Mediation Services, 625 Broadway, 1st Floor, Albany, NY 12233-5500. Comments also may be submitted via email to [email protected].

In addition, the date for the filing of petitions for party status is extended from Sept. 30 to Oct. 20. Petitions must now be received at the DEC's Office of Hearings and Mediation Services no later than 4 p.m. on Oct. 20.
