Theresa Bettinger, an instructional associate in the culinary arts program at the BOCES Niagara Career and Technical Educational Center, has a daughter, Carly, who was diagnosed with type 1 juvenile diabetes in 2012. Her colleagues at the center recently raised $281 for a walk that Theresa and her daughter participated in to raise money for a cure.

Carly, an artist, wanted to create a T-shirt for her team and wanted to use a warrior motif to symbolize a fighter against the disease. Theresa brought the idea to Karen Krull's graphic communications class to see if they could help out. Riley Watts, from Wilson, designed the shirt and her classmates Eli Zapp and Matthew Cooper, both from North Tonawanda, printed the T-shirts for the team.
