The Niagara County Department of Health, in partnership with the Niagara County Office for the Aging, is providing a free diabetes self-management workshop for individuals who have diabetes at the Tuscarora Nation Clinic. The workshop will be held at the clinic, which is located at 5226 Walmore Road, Lewiston, beginning Tuesday, Aug. 5.

The workshop consists of six consecutive weekly classes that run from 9:30 a.m. to noon. This is a program with proven health benefits for people who have diabetes and complements the health care that an individual may already be receiving. The purpose of the workshop is to enhance one's skills and ability to manage its condition, to maintain an active and fulfilling lifestyle and to feel better. Program instructors encourage caregivers to attend as well, as the program provides opportunities for caregivers to learn, share and support each other.

If you have diabetes and are a member of the Tuscarora Nation, or if you are a caregiver for an individual with diabetes, contact NY Connects through the Office for the Aging at 716-438-3030 or the Niagara County Department of Health at 716-278-1900 to register for the class.

For those interested in scheduling a workshop, call the health department at 716-278-1900.
