I am currently mayor of the Village of Youngstown and am seeking your support for re-election as mayor. Prior to my election as mayor in 2012, I served as deputy mayor and was elected as a trustee in 2008.

During my tenure as mayor, the trustees and I have worked hard to maintain and improve the quality of life that we enjoy in the village while operating in a transparent manner.

To promote communication between the board and the public, a new electronic sign was installed at the Village Center to facilitate information sharing and, at all board meetings the residents now have two opportunities to address the board - one at the beginning of the meeting and a new opportunity at the end of the meeting.

To promote transparency, we requested our first independent audit and the results will be posted for all to see. (See related announcement in this issue.)

We have had modest tax increases and have remained under the 2 percent tax cap by controlling spending while continuing to maintain services, and the mayor and trustees have not voted themselves a pay increase since 2008.

We have updated the computers and programs in the village office to increase efficiency and productivity.

We continue to explore new ideas. We are currently working with the business association to develop a parking solution for the business district and we are working with the yacht club and the marina to develop a parking solution to increase public access to the waterfront. We are planning a folk music and arts festival for this fall and have begun a new tourism committee to help promote Youngstown.

I love our quaint little village. That's why my wife Linda and I moved here 42 years ago with our two sons. I have previously served on the school board at Lewiston-Porter. For the last 21 years, I have served as a volunteer fireman and EMT and held various leadership positions during that time including president, vice president, assistant chief, EMS captain and EMS lieutenant. I have previously served on the Youngstown Recreation Commission and was a Youngstown Recreation baseball coach, Niagara Pioneer soccer coach, Cub Scout leader and assistant Cub Scout master. I have also served on the vestry of St. John's Episcopal Church and was a church youth group leader.

I want to ensure Youngstown continues to be a great place to live and raise a family, and so I ask for your support on May 20.
