Lewiston No. 1 sponsors 'Firefighter for a Day '14'

On Saturday, May 10, Lewiston No. 1 Volunteer Fire Co. will sponsor "Firefighter For A Day '14." The recruiting event is being held in conjunction with "RecruitNY," a program aimed at assisting volunteer fire departments across New York state recruit new members.

This event will begin with a meet-and-greet and orientation Friday evening. At that time, participants will meet with Lewiston No. 1 members, be issued firefighting gear, and will go over the following day's schedule.

On Saturday morning, the participants will go through an abbreviated course of training, similar to a new firefighter's training. After lunch, participants will have an opportunity to run simulated calls with firefighters, including search and rescue, auto extrication and emergency medical services.

Participants should be at least 16 years old.
