On April 9, Whitney Mallam, president of the Oakwood Cemetery Association, awarded Tim Baxter, operations director, with a certificate of recognition from the "Wreaths Across America" organization for his dedication as committee chair.

The mission of the "Wreaths Across America" organization is to "Remember, Honor, and Teach." It is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at specified sites, such as the historic Oakwood Cemetery, at noon on the second Saturday in December each year. The sites include Arlington National Cemetery, veterans' cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.

The importance of the organization's message is remembering fallen heroes, honoring those who serve, and teaching children about the sacrifices made by veterans and their families to preserve freedom. Members also encourage all to: "Don't Say I Should Have. Say I Did."

This year, the "Wreaths Across America" at Oakwood will be held in the veterans' section of Oakwood Cemetery Saturday, Dec. 13, precisely at noon. It is free and open to the public. Free parking is available.
