Honorably discharged veterans living in Niagara County are now eligible for discounts at the Catholic Cemeteries of Buffalo.

Veterans who enroll in the program through the Niagara County Clerk's office are eligible for a 20 percent discount on all services at any of the Catholic cemeteries, including Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston and Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lockport.

"By participating in this worthwhile program, we are able to honor the selfless service of these brave men and women," said Carmen Colao, diocesan director of Catholic Cemeteries. "We are proud to recognize the countless sacrifices they have made on behalf of freedom."

"The men and women who have served this country deserve a 'thank you,' " said Niagara County Clerk Wayne Jagow. "The Niagara County Thank a Vet Program does just that. As a community, it provides us a way to show our appreciation for our veterans in a tangible way. I am so grateful to the over 200 area businesses, including Catholic Cemeteries of Buffalo, who have partnered with us to make that a reality."

To obtain a Thank a Vet card, each applicant must be a qualified, honorably discharged veteran of any branch of the United States Armed Forces. Official discharge papers (DD-214) must be on file in the Niagara County Clerk's Office. If the form is not on file, it must be presented for filing prior to issuance of the discount card.
