Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue has been awarded an $899 grant from the Petco Foundation to be used for rescue dogs and foster behavioral training. The grant will enable the organization to obtain behavior and obedience training, which ultimately helps in the adoption process.

Volunteers are needed to assist with the animals that will eventually benefit from this training. This will be one of the topics at the group's March 12 volunteer meeting. Additional meeting topics include results of the recent "Heart to Heart" fundraiser ("A Taste of The Niagara Region"), as well as plans for upcoming events, including a major fundraiser planned for Saturday, June 14, at Lockport Locks and Canal Cruises.

The meeting will take place from 6-8 p.m. at The First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston (upstairs Blue Room), 505 Cayuga St.

Heart of Niagara is a not for profit companion animal rescue organization based in Niagara County. Its mission is to protect the health and welfare of abandoned, unwanted and homeless animals. Volunteers have adopted out about 150 animals to date and operate solely on donations and the generosity and support of the public.
