First weekend of 2014 Buffalo Home Show kicks off 70th anniversary with star of 'This Old House'

The 2014 Buffalo Home Show is back to celebrate its 70th anniversary with hundreds of exhibitors that will inspire visitors with innovative ways to transform any space in and around the home.

Here are a few highlights:

Kevin O'Connor, the star of the popular PBS programs "This Old House" and "Ask This Old House," will offer visitors a behind-the-scenes look at his shows and offer tips on storm-proofing a home.

•Local gardening expert Sally Cunningham will help visitors discover their green thumb by offering tips to grow a dream garden.

•Back by popular demand, the talented designers from the Interior Design Association of WNY will take on the "White Room Challenge" for a second year, but with a Hollywood twist.

•Learn about color psychology and how colors in your home can impact your mood and behavior. Judi Laird has studied color psychology at the University of Salzburg and will talk about how color and light can affect everything from sleeping habits to metabolism to biological clock.

•And visitors will be able to win some giveaways, including $5,000 toward a kitchen makeover from The Kaz Companies, $2,500 in wood flooring from M P Caroll, or one of 10 tablets from Verizon FiOS.
