Cheryl Flick, Nanette Rung, Christina Carter, Jennifer Kreutz-Castro, Chris Tedesco, and Marci Kramer were recently presented with the "Volunteer Team of the Year" award at the 2014Fresh Air Fund Volunteer Leadership Conference. The Fresh Air Fund highlighted the most outstanding volunteers for their dedicated support of the volunteer host family program. These women were recognized for their management work throughout Western New York.

"The Western New York team shows us that wonderful things can happen when you set your goals high and put your heart and soul behind it," organizers said. "The combined power of their teamwork creates a wonderful Fresh Air experience for our host families and Fresh Air children. They have come to expect the unexpected when a leadership change came about at their fall meeting. Instead of seeing this as a setback, it became a challenge that they tackled together by sharing the joy and the work."

The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. Fresh Air children are boys and girls, from 6 to 18 years old, who live in New York City. Children on first-time visits are 6 to 12 years old and stay for one or two weeks. Children who are reinvited by host families may continue with The Fresh Air Fund through age 18, and can enjoy extended trips. More than 65 percent of all children are reinvited to stay with their host families, year after year.

For more information on hosting a Fresh Air child this summer, contact Cheryl Flick at 716-634-7017 or visit The Fresh Air Fund online at www.freshair.org.
