The Starpoint School District notified the Niagara County Sheriff's Office at 7 a.m. Wednesday morning that an empty ankle holster was located on school grounds, outside of the high school buildings.

As a precaution, high school students arriving at the school on buses and in private vehicles were held in the parking lot pending an investigation. School officials and sheriff's deputies searched the school and did not locate any further suspicious items.

At about 8:45 a.m., a parent contacted the sheriff's office after hearing the school was locked down and he reported that he attended a sporting event Tuesday night at the school. While gathering several items from the back seat of his car prior to entering the school, he believes he grabbed his empty ankle holster by mistake and dropped it walking into the school.

School officials were notified and school resumed on a one-hour delay schedule.
