Public invited to free demonstrations

Rockler Woodworking and Hardware has partnered with internationally renowned Robert Sorby Tools of England to present a unique demonstration on woodturning. The event will take place Thursday, Feb. 20, from 1-3:30 and 5-7:30 p.m., at Rockler Woodworking and Hardware, 5085 Transit Road, Buffalo.

"We're thrilled to have a Robert Sorby woodturning expert visit us," said Rockler store manager Josh Cropp. "Having a chance to see and learn from a turner of this caliber is a special opportunity. Both our staff and our customers are eager to pick up new tips and techniques. And for those who haven't tried woodturning before, it's a great opportunity to see what it's all about."

Woodturning differs from most other forms of woodworking in that the wood is moving while a stationary tool is used to cut and shape it. Turning wood can make many intricate shapes and designs, and this artful form of woodworking has experienced a recent surge in popularity in the U.S.

The woodturning demonstration held at Rockler will be a rare opportunity for the general public to hear directly from an internationally acclaimed woodturning expert, and is a great event for all skill levels.

Rockler is underwriting this event so there will be no charge to attend.

Cropp said woodturning is a growing hobby.

"Access to the specialized tools and supplies needed to get into turning has vastly improved in terms of both availability and cost," he said. "We're seeing many more new customers coming in to buy lathes and other turning supplies. We've responded by increasing our assortments, and we now carry hundreds of turning blanks, hardware, tools and supplies to make everything from bowls to pens."

Celebrating its 59th anniversary as a family-run business, Rockler Woodworking and Hardware is a premier supplier of specialty hardware, tools, lumber and other high-quality woodworking products.
