During the opening week of the 2014 legislative session, Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, pushed his Western New York tax relief plan. The plan, which calls for doubling the STAR property tax exemption and a 2 percent income tax cut, would deliver about $2,000 in tax relief to the average Western New York middle-class family.

Ceretto advocated for his plan in advance of next week's budget address by the governor.

"During my tenure in the Assembly, we have turned a $10 billion deficit into a $2 billion surplus. This money belongs to the people, and we should use tax cuts to give it back to them," Ceretto said. "However, I can't make this happen alone. Sign my petition in support of this tax plan, and I will personally deliver it to the governor during the budget negotiations. With your help, we can enact the tax relief that Western New Yorkers need and deserve."

Ceretto's Western New York tax relief petition can be found at bit.ly/CerettoWNYTaxRelief. Hard copies are also available at Ceretto's district office, located at 1700 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls.
