On Saturday, Nov. 2, join Educate A Bull and members of the community as they celebrate the seventh annual "Barksgiving" at Chestnut Ridge Park.

"Barksgiving" is a dog-friendly festival and fundraiser started to celebrate four-legged canine friends. Come watch demonstrations of agility and herding, talk to local experts in veterinary medicine, nutrition and care, enter your dog in a costume contest, and get a head start on your holiday shopping with local vendors. Enjoy lunch from R&R BBQ Food Truck and The Roaming Buffalo Food Truck. Coffee is sponsored by Premier Gourmet.

Funds raised go directly to help dogs in need. Educate a Bull is a not-for-profit bully breed rescue group that works to educate the public about the breed and encourage people to be responsible dog owners. It rescues, rehabilitates, and re-homes dogs in need. The organization works with shelters and humane societies in New York as well as the south to identify and pull dogs that may not survive the shelter environment and need the love and structure that a home provides.

Organizers hope to see a future where bully breeds are better understood and live in loving, safe homes, rather than overcrowded shelters.

The event runs from noon until 5 p.m., and is open to the public (and dogs on leashes). It will be held at the Martin Lodge and MacKinnon Building, Chestnut Ridge Park, 6121 Chestnut Ridge Road, Orchard Park.

Special events include: a microchip clinic; dogfighting awareness booth (learn more about this tragic practice); dog agility and herding demonstrations; pet costume contest and games; a Chinese auction with more than 100 items; and a silent auction including Bills, Sabres and Bisons items, as well as a vacation worth more than $2,500.

Rescues with adoptable dogs include Educate A Bull, Diamonds In The Ruff and Buffalo Animal Shelter.

Participating vendors include: Sunny's Natural Pet Market, Canine Cupcakes, Bark and Ride, Camp Bow Wow, Canine Sports Complex, Ruff Relations, Five Star Pet Sitting, Custom Turf, Silpada, Origami Owl, Jenn Ayres Photography, Dog and Ewe Stock Dog Training, Everydry Waterproofing, Doxie Collie Photography, Sit N Stay Pet Sitting, All Creatures Animal Hospital and City Creatures Hospital.
