Robert F. Hoffer, a former IRS Appellate conferee, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, after a short illness. He was 93.
Robert grew up on Timon Street in Buffalo, graduating from Masten High School in 1937. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945.
In 1946, he married Marcella Kirsch, to whom he was married for 67 years. He attended Canisius College and graduated with his business degree in 1951.
Robert worked at Bell Air Craft from 1950 to 1960 as an accountant. He left Bell Air Craft to work for the IRS until he retired from the Appellate Division in 1981. During his time with the IRS, he received many honors for his excellent work.
Robert enjoyed golfing, jogging and bowling up until his late 80s. He was an avid reader and could often be found at the Grand Island Library initialing his name in the 100s of books read. Grandpa Hoffer Ha-Ha loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by all.
Robert is a former member of the Knights of Columbus in Kenmore and the Grand Island Senior Center.
Robert is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marcella (Kirsch) Hoffer, daughter Marsha A. (Joseph P.) Pinzotti and son Robert W. Hoffer; grandfather of Marcella (Brian) Panaro, Christine (Shawn) Lodovico and Mary (Christopher) Burns; great-grandfather of Joseph, Louis and Vincent Lodovico, Dominic and Tessa Panaro; brother of Arlene (Walter) Walker and the late Lorraine Mangold, Adeline Schworm and Ralph Hoffer.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated Oct. 10 at St. Stephen R.C. Church. Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice.
