Kindergarteners and first-graders at Sidway Elementary School underwent bus safety training as part of Bus Safety Week in the district Sept. 23 to 27.
Members of the district's bus safety team - Karen Dallessandro, Denise McMahon, Amy VeRost, Kathy Jackson, Shawn Benzing, Nancy Heftka and Sharlene Goode - made presentations and conducted drill with students in the Transportation Center and garage, located behind the school. Pictured, Benzing uses a Steffi Glove to direct students to across the road in front of the bus. Jack Burns, director of transportation in the Grand Island Central School District, said the glove is an additional element to safety procedures and will help assist students in crossing the roads and alert other motorists of the students' intentions.
