State Parks announce waterfowl blind drawings

Beaver Island State Park, West River Parkway, Strawberry and Motor islands lottery scheduled

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced lottery drawings for the first half of waterfowl hunting season have been scheduled at Beaver Island State Park.

Draws will be held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday beginning Friday, Oct. 25. The doors will open at 6 p.m. and the draws start at 6:30 p.m. sharp. The draws will continue to take place in the basement of the Beaver Island Clubhouse. Participants should enter in the back door closest to the parking lot next to the clubhouse.

Duck season will run from Oct. 26 through Dec. 8, and the Canada goose season will run from Oct. 26 through Dec. 18. For the extended goose season, Dec. 9-18, there will be call-ins only. Blinds can be reserved by calling 716-773-2010 (from 9 a.m. to noon) on:

•Thursday Dec. 5 for Monday-Tuesday, Dec. 9-10

•Tuesday Dec. 10 for Wednesday-Friday, Dec. 11-13

•Thursday Dec. 12 for Saturday-Wednesday, Dec. 14-18

Permits must be picked up at the park office no later than 4:15 p.m. weekdays prior to the day of the hunt.

To participate in the lottery drawings, hunters must be present and show a valid New York state small game hunting license with a signed duck stamp, proof of completion of a waterfowl ID course, and proof of registration in the harvest information program.

Again this season, State Parks will be including a DEC universal access blind located on East River Road at Spicer Creek Wildlife Management area (north of the cemetery). Waterfowl hunting is restricted to the wooden universal blind structure only.
