Katie Couric. Hillary Clinton. Mae Jemison. Vera Wang. Girl Scouting helped these influential women - and countless others - build important leadership skills in their youth.

On Sept. 21, Girl Scouts of Western New York is hosting "The Great Girl Scout Sign-Up Day," where girls and young women throughout Western New York will have an opportunity to experience a "taste" of Girl Scouts with fun hands-on activities.

"Our girls achieve so much in Girl Scouting! The experiences they have are not only fun, but they are meaningful and life changing," said Cindy Odom, CEO of Girl Scouts of Western New York. "One troop even had the chance to meet first lady Michelle Obama. Other girls have had the opportunity to travel to India for the trip of a lifetime. These and numerous other experiences help the girls grow into strong, confident women."

Great Girl Scout Sign-Up Day events will take place at more than 30 locations throughout Western New York, including the Elk's Lodge 346 at 1805 Fashion Outlet Blvd., Town of Niagara; North Tonawanda Alumni Center on Meadow Drive in North Tonawanda; the Lewiston Public Library at 305 S. Eighth St.; and Windy Meadows Hearthstone Lodge at 5000 Cambria Road in Cambria. The fun begins at 11 a.m. for most locations.
