Mary Isabelle (Deeves) VanderVoort, 82, of Grand Island died on the 30th day of August, 2013, at Kenmore Mercy Hospital, with her family by her side.
She was born in Hanover, Ontario, on Nov. 26, 1930, to Albert and Laura (Barnard) Deeves. She moved to Buffalo with her family in 1960.
On Feb. 27, 1954, Mary married Leo VanderVoort. Mary was preceded in death by her sisters Lorraine and Dorothy and her brothers George, John, and James.
Mary was a homemaker, devoted to her family, and to serving God. She was a gentle and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her family, Bible study, knitting and crocheting.
Mary is survived by her husband Leo and her children: Mary Elizabeth Clendaniel and her husband Dan of Manassas, Va.; John VanderVoort of Grand Island; Jayne Playfair and her husband Larry of Grand Island; and Connie VanderVoort and her husband Dr. Gordon Steinagle of Grand Island. Her grandchildren include Steven Clendaniel of McLean, Va., Jena Glownia and her husband Robert of Richmond, Va., and Michael, Dennis and Anna Playfair of Grand Island.
Visitation was held Monday, Sept. 2, at Kaiser Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday St. Stephen R.C. Church. Internment was in St. Stephen's Cemetery. Memorials in Mary's name may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
