Club celebrating 55th anniversary

At its monthly meeting on Aug. 19, the Grand Island Town Board issued a proclamation thanking the members of the Cinderella Isle Garden Club "for their continuing dedication to serving" the Grand Island community.

The club is celebrating its 55th anniversary this year. Organized in 1958 with a mission to encourage and educate its members in the areas of gardening, horticulture, ecology, conservation and home and civic beautification, the club currently has 35 members and meets on the third Thursday of each month at Trinity United Methodist Church.

According to the proclamation, the club was the first organization to adopt a town highway on the Island, and has cleaned Bedell Road from Baseline to Stony Point roads for decades.

In making the proclamation, the board noted the club's two annual fundraisers, a September mum sale and a St. Valentine's plant and gift sale, which support their civic beautification projects.
