Tom Larson this week announced his candidacy for supervisor in the Town of Wheatfield.
Larson, 54, is running on a platform of restoring responsiveness to Town Hall and putting an end to the constant reduction of services and the ever-increasing taxes that have plagued Wheatfield families for the past four years.
Stating, "The town of Wheatfield deserves better," Larson envisions a transparent town government.
He indicates that currently only minimal "public input" periods are allocated before and after "the regular Town Board meeting," therefore concerns cannot be addressed while actions are being taken, often on items not on the agenda.
Larson, a Republican committee-member, is an active member of the Air National Guard, based out of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, and a computer and networking analyst for the University of Buffalo. Larson and his wife Rita have been married for 35 years, and have three children.
"I have a plan to restore Wheatfield to a caring community with a reduced tax-burden, that provides services to Wheatfield families, without making excuses!" Larson said.
He went on to say that the current administration seems to be more interested in providing jobs for friends and family members and that residents should have equal opportunity for town employment vacancies.
He believes that there needs to be fiscal responsibility in the spending of the taxpayer's money, and an elimination of unnecessary taxes and fees such as the highway tax and fees for the youth center, he said.
"My administration would absolutely work to eliminate the unnecessary highway tax, reduce the bloated water rates, return our Youth Center to our Wheatfield children, return animal control to our Wheatfield families, and not take away library funding and other quality of life programs. It's time to give the residents the Wheatfield they deserve," he said.
"I will be running in the Republican primary and plan to run a strong positive campaign with ideas for the future, not excuses. Together, we will make Wheatfield a better place!" Larson concluded.
