The Wheatfield Business Association awarded three scholarships during its May 20 meeting at the Walmore Inn. The recipients of the 2013 scholarships are, from left, Kirsten Scherrer, Nilab Hussain and Christopher Galvano.

Hussain was born in Afghanistan, moved to Uzbekistan at age 6, moved to Buffalo at age 14 and later moved to Wheatfield. Her plans are to attend Buffalo State College to achieve her long-term goal to become a physician's assistant.

Scherrer is ranked third in her class with an average of 100.03. Her plan is to attend SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

Galvano has plans for a dual admission, Niagara County Community College for business administration and Niagara University for finance with a long-term goal of managing and owning his own business.

The Wheatfield Business Association scholarship committee, Danny Maerten, chairperson, Rob Allen, and Sharon DiPasquale, would like to thank all the students applying for the scholarship; the choices were not simple, easy decisions.

The annual WBA scholarships are open to any graduating high school senior currently a resident in the Town of Wheatfield. WBA members send congratulations to all area graduates and best wishes in all future endeavors. (photo by Danny Maerten)
