Obit: Kenneth A. Killian

Kenneth A. Killian, born Aug. 30, 1914, died peacefully in his sleep at 12:45 p.m. Nov. 30, 2012, after a short illness at Cornerstone hospice in The Villages, Fla. He was first married to Viola Martin of Buffalo, who is now deceased.

He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 51 years, and by his four children: Richard of California, James of Virginia, and Dorolynn Hawks and Christine Phillips, both of Florida.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mr. Killian is survived by a sister, Catherine Long of Grand Island. He is also survived by two brothers, Raymond of Buffalo and Walter of Rochester. He also had a brother Donald, now deceased.

Mr. Killian has been retired over 30 years. He first worked as a manager in the dairy business and then for a local Buffalo area cemetery. Mr. Killian was an active Mason, achieving Grand Master status at the Tonawanda Lodge. He grew up on Grand Island and attended Tonawanda High School. He worked with the construction crew on the original South Grand Island Bridge in 1933. He was an avid fisherman and loved to travel with his wife, Dorothy.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 25, at noon at the Kaiser Funeral Home, with a reception to follow at the Grand Island firehall. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Mr. Killian may be made to Villagers for Hospice, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, Fla., 32162.
