Annual event fights hunger ... one step at a time
Community Missions of Niagara Frontier will host its 11th annual Feet or Famine Walk on Saturday, April 27. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at Whirlpool State Park, with the walk following shortly after at 11:15 a.m. Around 100-200 walkers are expected to attend, and pets on leashes are welcome.
In 2012, Community Missions served more than 70,000 meals, provided crisis housing to more than 600 individuals, and provided more than 9,000 nights of care to neglected or abused children and homeless adults.
The walk will benefit Community Missions' crisis and community services programs, which include the community soup kitchen, food pantry, clothes closet, parole re-entry program, Mark's Place (HIV/AIDS residence), and homeless shelter.
Participants are asked to collect pledges in support of their walk. Pledge sheets, along with all collected donations, are then turned in at registration the morning of the walk. The walk will also include a classic car show, 50/50 raffle, a light picnic lunch, and much more. In addition, prizes are available for the top 10 individuals who collect the most dollars in pledges.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available and are a great way to market your business while supporting those less fortunate in the community. Current sponsors include GEICO and LocalEdge. Additional supporters of the walk include Maid of the Mist, Olympia Sports and Nutrilite.
