WNY Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure announces new executive director

The Western New York Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has announced that Juliana Janson was named executive director of the local Komen WNY Affiliate, effective Sept. 17.

As executive director, Janson, pictured, will be responsible for directing Komen's mission in Western New York: A promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all, and energizing science to find the cure.

"Juliana will be an excellent addition to the organization. Her experience, commitment and passion will help us increase our impact in Western New York," said Colleen Nossavage, board president of the Western New York affiliate.

"I am honored to work for an organization that has such a strong history in the fight against breast cancer." Janson said. "I look forward to working with the Komen staff, volunteers, and the Western New York community to further the mission to end a disease that has touched virtually everyone in some way."

Janson holds an MBA from Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Janson comes to Komen from HPA Consulting Group. As vice president, she provided strategic and practical guidance to companies and customers involving governmental relations, compliance and operations. Prior to HPA Consulting Group, Janson worked as director of regulatory affairs for Frontier Communications Corporation. She is currently on the board of trustees of Goodwill of WNY and serves on the boards of the Greater Rochester Women's Council and the Great Lakes Experience.

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982 that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and launched the global breast cancer movement. The Komen WNY Affiliate is working to better the lives of people facing breast cancer in the local community. Through events such as the Komen WNY Race for the Cure, the affiliate has invested $3 million in local breast health and breast cancer awareness projects in eight counties of Western New York. Up to 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the Affiliate stay here. The remaining income goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program to fund research.
