June has been a busy month for area Lions Clubs in northern Niagara.

On June 5, the Youngstown Lions Club held its annual awards dinner at Ray's Tavern on Lake Road. The evening saw the bestowing of several honors, including naming of Lew-Port student Keegan Miller as the Youngstown Lions Peace Poster winner by outgoing Lions President Lois Kaminsiki. Also, there was the presentation of a Club Appreciation Award to Tim Adamson, deputy major of the Village of Youngstown, for donation of new Youngstown Lions signage in the village. That evening, the club also presented its Robert J. Uplinger Award to Margaret Hanson, former Village of Youngstown trustee, for her many efforts on behalf of the club over the years.

In Wilson, the Wilson Lions Club held its ninth annual awards night/installation of officers on Monday, June 18, at the Wilson Boathouse Restaurant, and an awards ceremony that honored Wanda Burrows as citizen of the year and Edward Feigenbaum as veteran of the year. Past District Governor Dave Gehring installed the new officers of the club for the 2012-13 year. Past presidents Steve Clark and Joseph Jastrzemski congratulated Lion Bernie Leiker on his new position as president of the club and presented him with his gavel and bell.
